There are some verbs that can take either i or ki. This is true of words that indicate travelling to or some somewhere.
Kei te hikoi ngā tamariki ki te tāone.
The children are walking to town.
Kei te hikoi ngā tamariki i te tāone.
The children are walking from town.
There are some verbs that can either take i or ki where the meaning is slightly differerent:
Kei te piki ia i te maunga.
He is climbing the mountain.
Kei te piki ia ki te maunga.
He is climbing to the mountain.
The following words can take i or ki:
pupuri - to hold
rapu - to seek
rongo - to hear
