When giving a command to someone, if the verb has one or two syllables, it is preceeded with e:
E tu!
Stand!
E oma!
Run!
E noho!
Sit!
E moe!
Sleep!
If the verb has three or more syllables, then it does not have the e:
Hōmai te tote.
Pass me the salt.
Also, a short word will not have the preceeding e if it is followed by mai, atu, ake or iho.

Noho iho!
Sit down!
